John R. White
I was a philosophy professor before I began training as a psychotherapist and therefore both philosophy in general and ethics in particular always inform my clinical work. I have a Masters in mental health counseling, which I obtained from Franciscan University of Steubenville. I am also a psychoanalyst trained in the tradition of Carl Jung and a member of the Interregional Society of Jungian Analysts (IRSJA). I practice psychotherapy according to psychodynamic, classical Jungian, existential, and archetypal approaches and, more broadly, in traditions associated with “depth psychology.”I provide a safe, secure setting in which you can discuss problems and concerns and do so as freely and openly as you wish. Whether the focus is on specific, immediate problems or on long-term (even lifelong) concerns, my aim is to help you to resolve difficulties while enhancing your self-awareness, promoting your sense of personal autonomy, and helping you to clarify the nature and value of your feelings, hopes, and aspirations, a process which may also include discussing spiritual and religious issues, if you choose. I work in a conversational style, listening carefully to what you have to say, trying to help you come to some understanding and resolution of the issues you bring. I offer empathy, understanding, a good deal of humor, and what insight I have, helping you to see the many sides of what you are feeling, thinking, and experiencing. Through our conversation, and sometimes through laughing or crying, we can gain some understanding and wisdom about what you are suffering, about how to bring healing, and about what vision you might develop concerning your future.
